Ten great reasons to try martial arts before you die

If you have always dreamed of performing a perfect roundhouse kick or just wanted to embrace that pure animal physicality that Bruce Lee brought to everything he ever did in life, but haven’t tried martial arts just yet, you are really missing out.

Here are just a couple of reasons why you want to embrace martial arts before you die!

  • It’s an amazing workout

Regardless of the style of martial arts that you decide to practice, you will be able to rip through more calories than you ever could have imagined doing a more “standard” kind of exercise.

  • You’ll push yourself outside your comfort zone

It’s absolutely impossible to grow as a person when you continue to do the same things over and over. Martial arts will force you outside of your comfort zone.

  • You’ll get a lot stronger

Martial arts will build your mind and your body – both of which need to be as strong as possible to compete in our ultracompetitive modern world. This explains why kickboxing classes are popular in Manhattan with office workers who want a competitive edge in their 9-5.

  • Self-defense becomes effortless

One of the biggest reasons most people get into martial arts training is because it is a great way to learn how to defend yourself against anything and everything our uncertain world may throw at you.

  • Boost your confidence through the roof

Martial arts are going to require you to focus, to train, and to develop your mind and your body as well as that connection between those two. You’ll gain more confidence in yourself and your abilities as you become a martial arts practitioner.

  • Learning how to adapt becomes easy

Martial artists need to be able to adapt on-the-fly to whatever a particular situation requires. This adaptability will definitely spill over into the rest of your life.

  • You’ll make strengths stronger and weaknesses stronger, too!

Martial arts will train your body and your mind to hone your strengths to a razor’s edge but to also develop your weaknesses so that they aren’t weaknesses any longer. The health benefits of martial arts are well documented in peer-reviewed journals, so science supports our claims.

  • Setting goals and achieving them snowballs motivation

As you progress through different levels of martial arts training you’ll be able to set new goals, work hard to achieve them, and then enjoy the rewards of successfully doing what you set out to do. This is the best form of motivation there is!

  • You’ll learn more about other cultures

Every martial art practice today has embedded inside of it the DNA of the culture that created it. It’s impossible to learn a martial art and not learn about that culture as well.

  • You’ll learn more about yourself as well

You’ll also learn plenty about yourself, your strengths, your weaknesses, your tolerance for pain, and your commitment when you practice a martial art. It doesn’t get much better than that!

3 BIG Reasons To Consider Enrolling Your Child In Martial Arts Training

My 13-year-old son is a 2nd-degree black belt in Ernie Reyes’ West Coast Martial Arts. He has been in martial arts training since he was 6 (7 years now), and it has been one of the best investments we have ever made.

Here are just 3 benefits of martial arts training for kids you should consider:

  1. Develop Unshakeable Self-Confidence: As your child develops, he or she begins to be self-aware, which may make them feel unsure or self-conscious. Most children have a desire to try something new, impress their friends with a talent, and to feel secure about themselves. By studying martial arts, children develop a sense of accomplishment and skill that builds their self-image and boosts their confidence.
  2. Build Strong, Healthy Bodies: Well-rounded martial arts training includes stretching, warm-up exercises, drills, sparring, and techniques–all of which work to improve coordination and strength. If done regularly, martial arts is one of the best ways for children to stay in great shape and have FUN doing it.
  3. Improve Self-Discipline: Any martial arts training such as karate or taekwondo is a fantastic way to improve a child’s self-discipline. Students must follow the commands of their instructors, and practice outside of class time is essential to develop the skills to move up the ranking or belt system. With the understanding that they must perform what they have learned and practiced in front of an evaluating instructor pushes a child to pay attention and work hard. Few qualities will help a child more in the future than good self-discipline.

There are many martial arts schools in almost every city and town, but knowing which ones are good can be tricky. Not all dojos are created equal. There are also online martial arts training programs and video programs that can be useful if you possess the discipline to train on your own.

When selecting a martial arts school, it is worth your time to do some pre-screening homework. Does the school have a long-standing reputation in the community? Have you spoken with the owner and visited the location? When you visit, you will want to pay special attention to their methods of communication. Do they have dates and times clearly posted? I cannot stress enough how important it is that a martial arts school communicate with both parents and children. Doing this little bit of homework on the front end will save you tons of frustration later on down the road.

Martial arts training can be a pretty big financial and time investment. Do it right, and it will pay off BIG TIME for your child! Take it from a dad who knows!

SlowFastMoves: Moving from Slow Tai Chi Movements Into Exloding Martial Arts Moves

SlowFastMoves is moving from slow Tai Chi alike movements into exploding martial arts moves. This gives great advantages like more agility, stamina, flexibility, power, endurance and speed. It exists out of all round martial arts wich means it can be performed fighting standup, on the ground but also with weapons.

Iffie Hamidullahkhan is the founder of slowfastmoves and is an all around martial artist himself. He is known for his amazing Kukri fighting skills and close combat bone breaking techniques. Using the slowfastmoves method of training means anyone can do it no matter the body type or age. You can move slow and do some simple kicking and punching or you can do more advanced moves with and without weapons inside this kind of training.

The bridge between moving slow and exploding fast with the right breathing (breathing out when exploding) gives a great overall advantage to health but also integrates movement with normality creating automated movements principles for the brain so that when needed in self-defense situations persons can defend themselves against anyone attacking them.

SlowFastMoves can be used combined with any kind of martial arts. For example those doing Muay Thai can explode into Muay Thai moves or those doing MMA can use a standing boxing bag and explode into ground & pound. Moving slow to fast gives overall advantages for anyone in any sports but especially martial artists can benefit from training on this way. It is worth the try once you do this kind of training you will probably integrate it into you standard workout scheme because you can choose yourself how much energy you give and the pauses when moving slow reloads your own energy so that you can do the next explosive move without much trouble.

When Iffie made slowfastmoves.com he found using weaponry for moving slow to fast an important piece of the training. Using this extends the training by adding weight and brain impulses to measure reach and swing with power giving even more advantages for the slowfastmoves training. Also the jumping moves are very important it does not matter if these are with or without weapons. Moving slow and then jumping in the air making an explosive move makes it easier to perform the move with more impact in real life combat.

I recommend checking out the SlowFastMoves channel on YouTube by typing “Iffie” in the search bar. When you take a look at the video section there are some examples on how to perform it. Please give feedback for requested subject on training matter so new video material can be developed.

Start moving today from slow to fast to improve your martial arts results you have nothing to loose by trying if it works for you. You can add it into your training for like 3 days in a week after cardio, fitness or your normal martial arts workout.

For questions about the system contact Iffie personally on SlowFastMoves.com and feel free to ask whatever you would like to know. Good luck with your training and with slowfastmoves.

3 Reasons You Should Learn Karate Online

In the world of ever growing technology and amidst the information age, you can now study, research and learn nearly anything online, at the tip of your fingers, all in high speed, high definition glory!

This includes all manner of fitness training ranging from personal training, yoga, dance to even Karate.

Although mainstay “traditionalists” disagree with learning Karate online as opposed to a formal class setting, I will explain three reasons why you should consider training online.

Firstly, for the sheer convenience of learning on your schedule. Not everyone can get to a dojo or training facility on a regular basis. In today’s busy lifestyle, there may be too many day to day distractions that get in the way of your commitment to attending classes on a regular basis that make the expense worth the investment of your time. Family commitments and responsibilities can easily make getting away very difficult. Maybe you travel for a living or work away from home for weeks at a time and therefore don’t always know when the next class you can attend will be. This is a great reason to take online training, it will follow you wherever you may be and whenever you have time.

Next, you will want to consider the fact that you might not know enough about Karate to really know what you want from the training. Online training is a great way to research and study Karate and really get a feeling for what it has to offer you and more importantly, if it is a great fit for you. Too many times we get excited about something from an external source such as TV and movies, only to realise that the real world is remarkably different from our perceived ideals from these sources. Everyone sees only the Black Belt level proficiency, but rarely the hard work and dedication it took to get to that level. Dig deep to really understand the path you are about to take. After all this could be a life-long journey, so why would you just scratch the surface when doing research for something this time consuming?

Probably the most important reason you should learn Karate online is due to comfort. Not only is training in your own home more comfortable a setting but you may not be immediately comfortable training alongside others in a classroom setting. Too many times we stop doing things that we like because of our comfort level. We are all narcissistic when training or performing physical feats around others and that feeling of “everyone is watching me” can be a deal breaker for beginning students. This is true for the many of people who join a gym each year with a New Year’s resolution to “get back in shape”, only to be around people who are already in shape. This can crush your confidence. No one wants to be the person that holds up the class because they just don’t “get it” right away.

Although I have only discussed three points of consideration to learning Karate online, there are many more reasons for you to consider, like cost, how the training curriculum fits your needs and accessibility to training in a traditional Karate Dojo. There is an old martial arts saying “when the student is ready the master will appear”, no one said that the master would appear in the flesh. So now ask yourself with one hundred percent truthfulness, am I ready?

Heading Back to Fight Back

MMA: Mixed Martial Arts – The Sport

MMA or mixed martial arts involves the historical pieces of martial arts with new age flair. This sport is growing rapidly and is becoming more and more popular as interest is growing. As this sport grows, there are questions regarding the history as well as the actual sport of MMA. This sport originated from the sport of Vale tudo in Brazil and has been adopted within the United States as a leader in cage sport.

What is MMA?

MMA or mixed martial arts is a full-contact sport that uses multiple types of fighting styles. These fighting styles range from original karate to Vale tudo and Brazilian Ju Jitsu. Throughout history, MMA has been evolving beginning before weapons could be used. As society worked to defend itself, mixed martial arts was born. Now, the MMA is a top leader in the sporting industry. These fighters show their skills within a ring while they are barefoot and wearing thin gloves. The fighters are not allowed any other equipment and are only allowed to use their bodies as their weapons. These fighters are allowed full contact and can punch and kick to win against their opponent.

It is important to understand that this sport is translated as an anything goes fight. MMA uses all forms of martial arts as well as newer forms that have evolved over time. We can see evidence of this form of fighting as early as 700 BC through the amazing Olympics in that day and age. There is also evidence that martial arts were practiced and used in China in 200 BC when the body was the only weapon that was available for combat. Martial arts are an important piece of our history and was soon made an important part of our present.

The Match

The fighters are placed in a ring where they duke it out till the end. However, the actual match can be won only in three different ways. These ways include judge’s decision, a complete knockout or one opponent can hold the other in submission. These rules and regulations are similar to other forms of fighting including boxing and wrestling. However, MMA is an art form that must be perfected in order to subdue your opponent. There are various types of kicks, jabs and punches that can be used to subdue or knockout your opponent whether in the ring or outside of it.

The fighters are matched against fighters of their own size. There are seven different weight classes that allow for fair fighting. These classes include bantamweight, lightweight, featherweight, welterweight, middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight. There is a class for everyone out there when it comes to MMA fighting. These classes allow the fighters to compete in their given class for the ultimate title.

MMA first became popular in 1993 with the UFC or the Ultimate Fighting Championship. This organization places an extreme interest in MMA and is the premier arena for MMA full contact sporting. The UFC airs fights on the television, as many as 12 live pay-per-view fights. The UFC is broadcasted all over the world which has caused MMA to grow in popularity, not just in the United States. However, the UFC would not be what it is today without the evolving of the mixed martial arts culture over the years. Bruce Lee is said to be the first to use a form of mixed martial arts which soon became popularized due to his success. The UFC was first created with a tagline of “anything goes”. However, this lead to the unfortunate circumstance of being banned from the air. However, the UFC was purchased by Zuffa LLC and new rules were created to protect the art. This allowed the MMA to finally find its way back onto the television screen. MMA has been growing ever since.

Overall, the MMA is an amazing sport. Mixed martial arts has been evolving for centuries, which leaves us to practice a part of the past. Thanks to organizations such as the UFC, we are seeing an extreme growth in the MMA and in martial arts all over the world. It is a beautiful sport that uses the human body in a way that was never considered before. The MMA keeps evolving and is here to stay thanks to fighters and talented martial artists all over the world.
